Houston PI Lawyers Indicted in Alleged Barratry Scheme

Houston personal injury lawyers Jeffrey Stern, Deborah Bradley and Richard Plezia are named in a federal indictment unsealed on Tuesday that alleges conspiracy, witness tampering, obstruction of justice and tax violations in connection with a barratry scheme.
Stern, Bradley and Plezia are each charged with conspiracy and tax violations along with two other defendants—legal assistant Frederick Morris and Lamont Ratcliff, the owner of a medical clinic. Stern, founding partner of Stern Law Group in Houston, also faces witness tampering and obstruction of justice charges.
A grand jury in the Southern District of Texas returned the superseding indictment on Aug. 6.
