Wilson is regarded as one of Texas' preeminent land use attorneys, having built his career on helping private clients, property owners, Fortune 500 companies, owners and operators of industrial sites and religious organizations navigate highly complex land use and zoning laws. Board-certified in commercial real estate law since 1986, he is a fellow of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers and the only practicing Texas real estate attorney member holding the Counselors of Real Estate designation.

The real estate side of Wilson's practice is also active, focusing on addressing the needs of private entities. He is also called upon frequently to consult with the firm's litigation team on matters that require his services as a sharp problem-solver and negotiator.

As chairman of Wilson Cribbs + Goren, he has also proven adept at law firm leadership, having built the firm to become one of the go-to real estate boutiques in Texas.

The legal profession is constantly evolving and that evolution only seems to have accelerated in recent years. What's the biggest change you've seen in the profession during your career?

Law is becoming more of a business than a profession.  Larger firms are more like corporations, than professional associations.  This evolution manifests itself in more organizational structure and less individual lawyer control.  Management must be MBA-ish, with lots of metrics, goals and financial analysis.

What is one thing about the profession that has remained unchanged over the years?

Clients still select based on service, which includes timeliness, attitude, expertise, experience and reputation, and will pay a high rate for the best service.

What is one piece of advice you would give someone entering into the profession that you wish you had as a young lawyer?

There are no short cuts in the law,  sustained effort is required for success.

An awards ceremony will be held on Sept. 18 at the Belo Mansion in Dallas. The Attorney of the Year award winner will be announced at the ceremony.
