Jody Rudman Jody L. Rudman of Husch Blackwell.

Jody Rudman, a former federal prosecutor who is now a litigator for health care clients, has joined Husch Blackwell as a partner in Austin, coming from Nossaman.

Rudman, who officially started at Husch Blackwell on Tuesday, will practice in the firm's health care, life sciences and education industry group and on the government compliance, investigations and litigation team.

The firm's practice mix was a big factor in Rudman's decision to join Husch Blackwell, after practicing at Nossaman in Austin for about a year and a half.

"Husch Blackwell has a very strong presence in the health care industry and also in government investigations and litigation, both of which are exactly what I do. It was just a pretty exciting opportunity," she said.

Rudman, who was a former prosecutor in the Northern District of Texas, represents clients in investigations, civil suits and criminal indictments. She also works on benefits and insurance disputes, as well as billing and Medicare fraud. She declined to identify her clients.

The trial lawyer wasn't looking to leave Nossaman, but a friend suggested she have lunch with one of Husch Blackwell's partners and "that was kind of the beginning of the conversation." She said she was already familiar with the quality of the firm's lawyers and the breadth of its practice.

Curt Chase, the head of Husch Blackwell's health care, life sciences and education industry group, said in a press release that Rudman adds much to the firm's Texas health care practice.

"Jody is highly regarded as both a strategist and a tactician and has a long track record of getting terrific results for her clients," Chase said.

A spokesman for Nossaman did not immediately respond to a request for a comment on Rudman's departure.
