A Tennessee-based law firm has found itself tangled in a dispute with a former partner in Austin, who claims the firm owes him $340,000 for his partnership interest after he made a lateral move in August.

Paine Tarwater Bickers, a small litigation firm based in Knoxville, is seeking a declaratory judgment that former partner Ryan Harrison of Austin is entitled to no money for his partnership interest. The firm and its four partners alleged in a federal lawsuit filed last month that Harrison’s withdrawing partnership interest is “more than offset” by his share of firm liabilities and the value of the book of business he took to his new firm.
