Peckar & Abramson, P.C. (P&A), a national construction law firm with three offices in Texas in Austin, Dallas and Houston, bolstered its Houston Construction & Infrastructure Practice with the addition of two litigation and corporate attorneys.
Timothy A. Rothberg has been named Partner and Jonathan Scott Miles has been named Senior Counsel.
Matt Moore, Co-Managing Partner of P&A's Houston office, says Rothberg is a remarkably skilled trial attorney who embodies P&A's results first mindset in his strategic and practical approach to dispute resolution and counseling,
"He brings extensive trial and dispute resolution experience — highly sought-after skills for clients both in litigation and before a matter ever goes that far," Moore said. "Tim's experience includes extensive work in matters involving construction, oil and gas, and energy, as well as all manner of complex commercial litigation."
Rothberg was recently inducted into the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), and provides both litigation services and corporate advice, a P&A spokesperson said. His trial experience includes both appellate and lower court verdicts in the hundreds of millions of dollars. He holds a B.A. in Political Science/Communications from Houston Baptist University, and a J.D. from Emory University School of Law.
As a partner in P & A's Houston office, Rothberg will concentrate his practice on construction, oil and gas, and complex commercial litigation matters and provide his clients both courtroom and business solutions, the spokesperson said.
Challenges and Opportunities Lead to Moves
Rothberg said what attracted him to leave trial practice and go to work in the private sector at P&A is the opportunity to continue focusing on his work as a trial lawyer in construction and energy cases while drawing upon P&A's national reach and industry expertise to provide a more complete suite of services to clients.
"My experiences in the courtroom have taught me how to evaluate disputes through the lens of a trial presentation, and to provide tailored advice to clients based on that vantage point," Rothberg said.
"I believe this perspective is helpful for our clients in their analyzing of disputes and risk factors before a matter ever reaches the trial stage," he explained.
In the case of Miles, the challenge of using his in-house skills and transferring them to P&A's base of general contractors and other construction related clients in Texas was irresistible.
"Being in-house deepened my understanding of the commercial side of the construction industry, rather than seeing it primarily from the litigation or arbitration perspective," Miles said.
"Having been inside, overseeing risk management and contract management, and participating in business planning, will allow me to counsel P&A clients more comprehensively, across the lifecycle of a project or series of projects," he explained.
