Judge Inna Klein of Nueces County's 214th District Court has already won her bench because she is unopposed in both the Republican Primary in March and the general election in November.

This election season Texas Lawyer will be publishing Q&A's with candidates for district and appellate court benches in the Lone Star State.

Klein completed Texas Lawyer's judicial questionnaire. Here are her answers, edited for length and news style, so you can meet your judge.

What is a brief biography of work experience, educational qualifications and career honors that you want voters to know about?

I have been the presiding judge of the 214th District Court since January 2017. I previously served the people of Nueces County as a municipal court judge for the city of Corpus Christi for almost four years and as an assistant district attorney for Nueces County for six years. I received both my undergraduate degree and juris doctorate degree in Massachusetts. I was an intern with the office of Rhode Island Public Defender and an associate with a small plaintiff's medical malpractice and products liability firm in Providence, Rhode Island.

Why do you want this position?

I believe my background, temperament, commitment to our community and to public office and my proven record as a judge of the 214th District Court make me the best judge for this court.

In your view, what is the proper role that a judge should play in the courtroom?

A judge must be present, willing and able to actively listen to the litigants, remain neutral and open minded and review the law and all available documents in preparation for the hearing and/or trial.

How would you go about managing this court's docket efficiently and effectively?

We utilize Odyssey system, docket control conferences, status meetings, regular probation reviews and mediation services.
