A California recruiting company and Katten Muchin Rosenman have settled a lawsuit related to the firm's opening of its Dallas office in 2018.

The suit filed by Kossoris Search of Los Angeles had been set for trial Jan. 27 in the California Superior Court in Los Angeles, but the parties filed a joint notice of settlement in Judge H. Jay Ford III's court on Jan. 17.

In that notice, Katten and Kossoris Search said they are in the process of documenting the settlement and will file a dismissal as soon as practicable.

A representative for Katten confirmed the settlement, but she said terms are confidential and the firm would have no comment on it.

Ryan Larsen, a Katten partner in Los Angeles who is on the defense team and signed the notice of settlement, did not immediately return a call seeking comment.

Marc Mukasey, a partner at Mukasey Frenchman & Sklaroff of New York who represents Kossoris Search, did not immediately return a call seeking comment. Amy Kossoris, owner of Kossoris Search, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Kossoris Search sought to collect a placement fee—the amount was unspecified—after a group of seven Dallas lawyers, led by corporate partner Mark Solomon, joined Katten in February 2018. The group came from Andrews Kurth Kenyon, which soon afterward merged with Hunton & Williams.

Amy Kossoris alleged that she introduced the group to Katten in 2015, and the firm agreed to pay her an "unconditional placement fee" if it hired the Dallas partners.

Last August, Ford denied Katten's motion for summary judgment, finding "triable issues of fact" exist in Kossoris Search's breach of contract and quantum meruit causes of action. The judge granted summary adjudication to Katten on a promissory estoppel cause of action.
