It's election season, and Texas Lawyer is publishing Q&As with candidates in contested races for district court and appellate court benches in the Lone Star State. Early voting runs from Feb. 18 to Feb. 28, and election day is March 3.

Here are candidates running in contested primary races for the 164th District Court in Harris County.

In the Democratic Primary, trial and appellate litigator Grant J. Harvey, incumbent Judge Alexandra Smoots-Thomas and senior assistant county attorney Cheryl Elliott Thornton are competing for the bench.

The winner is set to compete in the November general election against Michael Landrum, a mediator and arbitrator with Clark Hill Strasburger in Houston. Landrum was judge of the 113th Civil District Court in Harris County from 2013 through 2018. He is running unopposed in the Republican Primary.
