Staying Bullish on Texas, Shearman Adds 2 Thompson & Knight Dealmakers in Dallas
A month after opening in Dallas with six partners, Shearman & Sterling has brought on two more partners who do M&A and private equity work.

Continuing its Texas growth, Shearman & Sterling has added two Thompson & Knight M&A and private equity partners to its new Dallas office, which was one of several Big Law offices to launch in Texas this year.
Ann Marie Cowdrey and Nathan Meredith joined Shearman as partners in Dallas. Cowdrey focuses on private equity work and advised on M&A, strategic recapitalizations and initial public offerings. Meredith does M&A and private equity work with a focus on oil and gas, according to a Shearman press release.
The dealmakers join a Dallas office that launched Feb. 10 with three M&A partners from Jones Day and three partners who moved from Shearman's Houston office.
David Beveridge, senior partner at Shearman, said in a press release that Cowdrey and Meredith bring expertise that fits well with the firm's private equity strength in Texas and globally, particularly in the energy and infrastructure sectors.
"Dallas itself is quickly becoming a major private equity hub, with hundreds of firms headquartered there. Moreover, their expertise in energy and infrastructure will be a great complement to our Houston-based and global energy teams," Beveridge said.
Cowdrey said she was not looking to leave Thompson & Knight, but is excited for the opportunity to move to Shearman and help "build something that had my stamp on it."
She said Shearman is committed to Texas, and has an "incredible" New York office with a significant focus on private equity work.
Meredith said he is excited to rejoin former Thompson & Knight colleagues Sarah McLean, an M&A and private partner in Shearman's Houston and Austin offices, and Todd Lowther, a tax partner in Houston.
Both partners declined to identify their clients. Cowdrey joined last Thursday and Meredith made the move on Monday.
When asked to comment on the departures, a representative for Thompson & Knight said Cowdrey and Meredith have been valued partners and "outstanding members" of the firm's corporate and securities practice group for many years, and the firm is grateful for their contributions and wish them well.
Earlier this month, Thompson & Knight lost three litigation partners, who joined Thompson Coburn to help the Midwest firm launch its Dallas office.
Shearman moved into Texas in March 2018 with an office in Austin, then tacked on Houston two months later. The firm has more than 60 lawyers in Texas, including 25 partners.
