The overall pass rate for the February 2020 Texas Bar Examination dropped to 45.9%, nearly reaching 2018′s record low of 45.2%, and considerably below the 53.5% pass rate of a year ago.

According to statistics made public by the Texas Board of Law Examiners on Tuesday, 457 of the 996 test-takers passed the February exam, and 539 failed.

The lower Texas pass rate for the February test comes as the national average score on the Multistate Bar Exam, which is part of the licensing exam, slipped 1.4 points from last year, according to the National Conference of Law Examiners.

For first-time test-takers from Texas law schools, 151 of 235 passed the test, for a pass rate of 64.3%. That is lower than last year's 69.2% pass rate for first-time test-takers from the Texas schools.

For out-of-state schools, 29 of 88 first-time test-takers passed the exam, for a 33% pass rate.

On Friday, the board posted the pass list for the February exam.

Baylor Law School had the highest pass rate for the exam, with 37 of 42 first-time test-takers passing, for an 88.1% pass rate. The next highest was South Texas College of Law Houston, with 41 of 53 passing the exam, for a pass rate of 77.4%.
