Under protest from one party, a rural Texas court on Thursday started jury selection in the state’s first hybrid jury trial of the COVID-19 pandemic.

John Brusniak, lead counsel for Kinder Morgan Production Co. in a tax protest case, is appearing via Zoom because his doctor prohibited him from appearing due to age and health problems. But the parties and opposing counsel are appearing in person in the 132nd District Court in Scurry County.
