First Assistant Attorney General Jeff Mateer resigned Oct. 2 just before it became public that he and six other top executives were accusing Attorney General Ken Paxton of criminal conduct. Now Paxton has appointed his replacement.

Mateer was once nominated to the federal bench, but rejected for controversial comments that transgender children were part of “Satan’s plan.” He joined the Texas Office of the Attorney General in 2016 from the conservative religious liberty law firm First Liberty Institute. He has now returned to his old workplace, reported The Dallas Morning News.
