A judge has awarded a Houston law firm $90,000 in sanctions and nearly $36,000 in attorney fees against a real estate company that sued the firm for representing an opponent in earlier litigation.

When granting the $126,000 award to Hoover Slovacek, Judge Michael Landrum of Harris County’s 164th District Court found that plaintiff Jetall Cos. Inc.—which is headed by Houston investor and developer Ali Choudhri—had a history of suing opposing attorneys who represent parties adverse to Jetall in litigation. In fact, the company had already seen a previous case, over the same topic, dismissed against Hoover Slovacek and one of its lawyers.
