Odessa solo practitioner John F. Shrode will become the next judge of the 358th District Court in Odessa.

Gov. Greg Abbott on Tuesday announced he had appointed Shrode to the trial court, which is vacant because former Judge W. Stacy Trotter was elected to the 11th Court of Appeals and took office Dec. 3. Shrode will serve out the rest of Trotter's term through December 2022. If he wants to continue to a full term, he would have to win election in 2022.
