Telehealth was the breakout technology during the pandemic, says Jonathan M. Ishee, a partner at McGuireWoods, whose practice focuses on clients in the health care and technology industries.

Before the pandemic, most commercial health plans did not widely cover telehealth services, and Medicare covered it only when it was used in a rural or medically underserved area, Ishee said. Additionally, many states had various requirements making the use of telehealth more difficult.
