The Texas Legislature is likely to pass a new law that would dramatically curtail or end the 700-plus pending lawsuits asserting damages related to COVID-19 exposure in courts across the state, along with all future COVID-19 exposure lawsuits.

On April 8, the Texas Senate passed broad COVID-19 liability protections for Texas businesses (Senate Bill 6). These protections should provide assurances and safe harbor to Texas businesses to continue or accelerate their re-openings with a greatly reduced risk of legal exposure if an employee, customer or visitor contracts COVID-19 while on their premises.
