Notwithstanding what appears to be a multi-year trend of fewer lateral moves in the state and signs that certain market segments are attracting more of those laterals (more on those points below), the competition for legal talent in Texas is white hot right now, especially for associates, especially on the transactional side, says law firm consultant Kent Zimmermann of Zeughauser Group.

The competition is also far greater this year than last year for partners with large, higher-rate practices, says Zimmermann.
