Husband-and-Wife Law Team Opens Houston Office

The husband and wife team of Randall Sorrels (the Immediate past president of the State Bar of Texas) and Alex Farias-Sorrels (a trustee on the Texas Bar Foundation) announced their new team of lawyers and new office location for Sorrels Law. Randall Sorrels left his previous firm (Abraham Watkins) after 30 years, including 25 as managing partner. "I was given a unique opportunity to join another firm as a result of my role as President of the State Bar. Then fate, as well as a couple of former Major League Baseball players stepped in, and we opened our own law firm. And the result could not have turned out better," said Sorrels, in a statement.

A nurse/lawyer, a pharmacist/lawyer, an engineer/lawyer, a bilingual lawyer and a lawyer who specializes in 18-wheeler and auto wreck cases round out the team. Alex Farias-Sorrels earned her J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law. She is a former briefing clerk at the Supreme Court of Texas and worked at the international firm of Morgan Lewis before becoming a plaintiffs' lawyer. Randall O. Sorrels received his Juris Doctor degree from South Texas College of Law Houston. He began his career at Fulbright & Jaworski before becoming a plaintiff's lawyer. Farias-Sorrels commented, "Once we decided to start our own law firm, we made a conscious effort to find a group of highly diverse, multi-talented lawyers to become teammates with. The diversity people see in our firm should signal we are a law firm for all of the people—not just a select few."

Late 2020 talks to open a Houston office with another firm were set aside when Randall and Alex were called to trial in a case where they represented the sons of former Major League Baseball players Roger Clemens and Mike Capel. An in-person jury was selected in January and the trial began in February. The week-long trial resulted in a $3.24 million judgment in favor of the Sorrels' clients. After the well-publicized victory, Alex told Randall it was time to open their own firm. "Randy had developed a reputation of excellence in everything he did, and the jury verdict just seemed like a sign it was time to build our own dream around that reputation," Alex said. "Alex and I sought to build a team of lawyers who could take on any case and any challenge. We feel very fortunate these lawyers have agreed to join us," Randall Sorrels concluded.
