The Texas Civil Rights Project has tapped James Nortey, an associate at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius in Houston, as its next board chair.

Nortey, who is set to take office Oct. 1 for a two-year term, is a longtime volunteer and supporter of the organization and said he is “very passionate” about its work. A son of immigrants from Ghana, Nortey was born in Dallas and grew up in El Paso. He graduated from Baylor University, and earned his law degree from Harvard Law School, and notes that in college “it became very apparent to me that not everyone had the same opportunities as me.”
