Dustin McCrary, a longtime North Carolina family law attorney and author of the new book “A Better Divorce,” which is scheduled to be released later this spring, has a new tool for defusing tension during divorce mediations: He brings along his dog, Max.

McCrary recently got Max, a two-year old Boston Terrier from a nearby kennel in Charlotte, and began bringing him into the office, where he turned into a surprise hit.
