The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) issued two new policy statements in February regarding the approval process for natural gas pipelines and liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities that will take greenhouse gas emissions and environmental justice impacts into consideration in determining whether the infrastructure projects are in the public interest.

FERC is the federal agency that regulates the transmission and wholesale sale of electricity and natural gas in interstate commerce. The agency also regulates the transportation of oil by pipeline in interstate commerce.
