A former Texas student who said her teacher harassed her after she sat out and was forced to write the Pledge of Allegiance received a $90,000 settlement, according to the civil rights group representing her.

LaShan Arceneaux filed the federal lawsuit on behalf of her daughter M.O., a  student at Klein Oak High School in Spring, Texas, in October 2017 after a sociology teacher at the school isolated her and forced her to write out the Pledge of Allegiance. Attorneys from the nonprofit organization, American Atheists, represented her in the case and announced the settlement March 29.
