The four-plus years since the mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School have been laden with accusations of negligence, delayed responses and lawsuits that have cost defendants millions.

It might be premature to predict if the same will occur in Uvalde, but similarities between the two school shootings and the reaction to date from state officials and the federal government lean heavily toward days of reckoning for local law enforcement and the school district.
