The state argued that this original signature requirement was necessary to assure the accuracy of information and prevent fraud, but U.S. District Judge Jason Pulliam of the Western District of Texas said the state provided no credible evidence that a wet signature is less accurate or less susceptible to fraud.

A federal judge in San Antonio dismissed a Texas voter-registration claim, and entered an injunction banning enforcement of a "wet signature" rule.
The lawsuit, Vote.org v. Callanen and Paxton, challenged a 2021 law that added "wet signature" requirement to voter registration forms submitted by fax.
