A regional liquor store chain prevailed in the Texas Supreme Court in a dispute with the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission over whether non-exempt public corporations could acquire package store permits.

The ruling also goes against the wishes of the Texas Package Stores Association, which has been fighting to keep major corporations from competing with small business owners. The association submitted a friend-of-the-court brief and their attorney, Ryan Greene of Terrill & Waldrop said, "While the (association) is not a party in that bankruptcy case, we will continue to monitor the case as it returns to the federal courts."
