The Texas Central Railroad & Infrastructure’s long-delayed high-speed rail project received a much-needed win from the Texas Supreme Court, but its future remains clouded by financial woes and a leadership vacuum.

The high court on Friday announced that Texas Central and its related entities have eminent domain authority—an issue that has kept the project held up in court since early 2016 when a Leon County landowner sued to prevent the company from conducting surveys on his 600-acre property.
