Holland & Knight and other counsel filed a lawsuit Monday in Texas Northern District Court over the status of a 'follow-to-join' petition filed with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. The suit was brought on behalf of a legal state resident who fled her home in Burundi two years ago in order to escape harassment and abuse from law enforcement. The case seeks to adjudicate the petition, which was filed on behalf of her spouse, who remains in Africa. The case is 3:22-cv-02428, Bayisabe v. Ur M. Jaddou, in her official capacity as Director of United States Citizenship and Immigration Services.
