Kansas City-based Polsinelli, accused of negligence by attorney, faces a $14.5 million claim from a Florida-based client that says it had its creditor position in a Texas bankruptcy severely weakened because its lawyers did not name the defendant.

Plaintiff World Fuel Services Corp., which trades on the New York Stock Exchange as INT, is a Texas corporation that is headquartered in Doral, Florida. It alleges in a complaint filed Dec. 2 that its Polsinelli counsel named the wrong company in its bankruptcy claim for $9 million plus interest and attorney fees—a claim currently estimated at $14,546,621. And as a result, the company was “forced into a settlement for far less than the full amount of its claim,” the plaintiff argued.
