The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, finding abuse of discretion by U.S. District Judge Alan Albright of the Western District of Texas, reversed a $2.1 billion verdict and ordered a new trial in VLSI Technology LLC v. Intel.

Intel—represented by a Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr legal team composed of attorneys in Boston; Washington, D.C.; and Denver—was able to convince a Federal Circuit panel that one of two challenged patent infringement claims was insufficiently presented.
