What You Need to Know

Three challenges of candidates for judicial office were overcome in rulings issued this week by the Texas Supreme Court.
A state supreme court justice, an incumbent district court judge and a challenger to an incumbent judge were the targets of disqualification petitions.
The court rulings were that the candidates were entitled as a matter of law or the allegation required a hearing on the merits.

Texas Supreme Court Justice John P. Devine and three candidates running for district court seats overcame challenges to their placements on the March 5 primary ballots.

In the case of Devine, a Republican, his ballot position was challenged by Second Court of Appeals Justice Brian Walker, who is running against the incumbent.
