What You Need to Know
- Associates who began practicing during lockdown are now midlevels, meaning law firms' economic worker bees have little to no experience with pre-pandemic life in Big Law.
- Attempting a return to pre-pandemic culture and pushing the goal of equity partnership isn't boosting morale at firms that don't respect associates' boundaries or clearly define what success looks like outside of billable hours.
- Instead, midlevels are craving flexibility, healthy boundaries, reasonable flexibility to accommodate their personal lives and a clearly defined path to partnership.
If you're a Big Law partner trying to understand why your midlevel associates aren't rising to the occasion the way you did, think back to how things were back in the day.
