What does your group see as its most significant achievements for 2023, and why?

Baker Botts attorneys have had significant involvement in the Texas "business courts," which are specialized courts established to handle complex business disputes in a more efficient way. These courts aim to provide a dedicated forum where judges with expertise in business and commercial law can preside over cases involving significant financial stakes or complex legal issues. The goal is to expedite resolution, promote consistency in decision-making, and enhance predictability for businesses involved in litigation. These courts typically handle cases such as contract disputes, intellectual property matters, corporate governance issues, and other business-related conflicts. By focusing on these types of cases, Texas aims to support economic growth and attract businesses by offering a streamlined and knowledgeable judicial process. The new Texas business courts will be very beneficial to our clients and our lawyers, given our market-leading litigation capabilities here. These courts are likely to attract more business claims – including big-ticket matters – to Texas. We are already home to more Fortune 500 headquarters than any other state, and the business courts will develop a body of law that could prompt even more businesses to opt for Texas as a forum for their disputes. We can't wait to be part of it.
