Paul Hastings has signed leases for larger space in Houston and Dallas as the firm has more than tripled its Texas head count since 2023 and expects to surpass 100 lawyers in the Lone Star State in early 2025.

In Dallas, the firm will move into offices in the under-construction Knox Street Development once it opens in 2027. The firm, which launched its Dallas office in March with a team of Vinson & Elkins global finance lawyers, is currently in offices in Trammell Crow Center.

In Houston, the firm will move early next year into a new space at 609 Main. The firm moved into the Texas market in 2012 with an office in Houston.

Paul Hastings chair Frank Lopez said in a news release that the new office spaces underscore the firm’s commitment to Texas.

“We are pleased that so many premier lawyers and clients continue to be attracted to our world-class platform as we expand and gain additional market share across Texas and globally,” he said.

Paul Genender, a litigator and co-chair of the firm’s Houston and Dallas offices, said in an interview that while the new offices will be “cool,” the firm is more excited about its growth in Texas.

Joy Dowdle, a litigation partner who is co-chair of the Houston office, said 609 Main is a “fantastic” building and the space will accommodate more than 100 lawyers as the firm continues to grow. The firm also has an option to add more space if needed, she said.

The design emphasizes light, flexible space and a high level of technology, she said.

Genender noted that the collaborative spaces in the new office are important for how firms operate today, allowing teams of lawyers to work together on cases and deals, and for training.

Cris Dewar, a global finance partner and co-chair of the Dallas office, said the location of the new office in the Knox Street Development is significant.

“We are new to the town as a brand. We feel like we are different and want to be different to all of our peer firms,” he said.

The development is located on the Katy Trail near the Highland Park area of Dallas, a location that Dewar said will shorten commutes for many working in the office. The office will have an outdoor space with a balcony that overlooks the trail, he said.

“Our people are super excited about it. It’s absolutely important to attracting and retaining talent,” he said.

Genender said Paul Hastings will continue to strategically add lawyers in Texas, for the most part to existing practices in transactional and litigation.
