Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton announced the state's share of a nationwide $1.37 billion settlement with Ohio-based Kroger Co. over its role in the opioid epidemic will be more than $83 million.

To date, the state's office of attorney general has obtained more than $3 billion in opioid-related settlements with drug manufacturers and other entities. Funds from the settlements go to opioid abatement programs overseen by the Texas Opioid Council.
