In September 2023, Gov. Greg Abbott signed legislation launching Texas’ specialized business court aimed at streamlining complex corporate and business-related litigation and fostering a more business-friendly legal environment. With divisions located in major metropolitan areas such as Austin, Dallas and Houston, this court focuses exclusively on disputes involving organizations, corporate governance, contracts, commercial transactions, and securities and trade regulation law. The court’s jurisdiction expressly excludes personal injury or employment-related cases.

The creation of the business court reflects Texas’ commitment to providing a specialized and efficient forum for resolving high-stakes business disputes, reinforcing its reputation as a top destination for corporate growth and investment. This article addresses the court’s statistics and notable rulings one quarter after opening its doors on Sept. 1, 2024.
