Did the Texas Supreme Court step on the Legislature’s toes in 2007 by extending immunity from a suit brought by a contractor’s injured employee to the owner of the premises where the injury occurred? Some state lawmakers think so, and they are trying to pass legislation to undo the ruling.

“The Texas Legislature ought to make laws for the state of Texas, not the Texas Supreme Court,” state Rep. Helen Giddings told the House Committee on Business and Industry at the conclusion of a March 16 hearing on H.B. 1657.
