American Bar Association president H. Thomas “Tommy” Wells Jr. stopped by Dallas on April 7 to make the introductory remarks at a Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law-sponsored seminar titled “Justice for All? Perception of Racial and Ethnic Bias in Our Courts.”
Wells, a partner in and founding member of Maynard, Cooper & Gale in Birmingham, Ala., took time out from the event to speak with Texas Lawyer reporter Miriam Rozen about a number of topics, including how the recession will influence pro bono and diversity progress in the legal profession; how unemployed lawyers should go about seeking work; and why it is so important for the judiciary to remain independent.
