On a 39-1 vote Jan. 29, the State Bar of Texas board of directors recommended that lawyers not be required to disclose whether they have professional liability insurance unless a client or potential client requests such information.

But if the Texas Supreme Court ultimately determines that such disclosure should be required, the State Bar board recommended on a second, unanimous vote that the process be handled through an administrative rule, rather than a disciplinary rule.
