Dallas District Attorney Craig Watkins, a Democrat, is seeking a second term in the November elections. He entered office in 2006 promising to change fundamentally the way the county prosecutes. With three years of statistics available, comparisons are now possible between his administration and that of his Republican predecessor, Bill Hill.

Statistics for the years 2005-2009 compiled by Watkins’ office show the number of felony cases: disposed of, dismissed, resulting in plea agreements, resulting in convictions after trial and resulting in acquittals after trial. [See "Dallas County Felony Case Filings and Dispositions," below. ]
