Even before the Oct. 4 hearing started, the fight over Russell Budd and Baron & Budd’s attempt to have an $8.8 million verdict against them dismissed promised to be just as contentious as the six-week trial that led to that stinging defeat.
On May 19, a Dallas jury found that Budd and Baron & Budd made negligent misrepresentations to lawyer Gary Cruciani when they hired him on May 1, 2006. Cruciani had left Dallas’ McKool Smith to join Baron & Budd as head of its commercial litigation division.
