On March 15, Unified Messaging Solutions, a subsidiary of Acacia Research Corp., sued several companies, including Facebook Inc., LinkedIn Corp. and Research In Motion, in the Eastern District of Texas, alleging they had infringed several of its patents related to delivering and managing online messages.
That same day, Wireless Ink Corp. filed a second patent infringement suit against Facebook and Google Inc. in the Southern District of New York over a patent related to websites for mobile device users. The first suit, related to a different but similar patent for mobile device websites, was filed in March 2010 and is still pending.
