China’s star just keeps rising. It is already the top trading partner for six of the world’s largest markets and is the world’s second-largest economy. It also has the fastest-growing patent market. Patent filings increased 56.2 percent in China in 2010, and it had the fourth-largest number of patent applications (behind the United States, Japan and Germany). Not surprisingly, in the past four years, more patent lawsuits have been filed in China than in any other country.

The rush to innovate and litigate is not about to slow. The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) estimates that intellectual property will account for more than $6 trillion in global trade by 2020, up from $3 trillion in 2005. This has helped make IP one of the fastest-growing practice areas in China.
