Woman awarded $11,738 for alleged injuries

On March 28, a jury awarded $11,738 to a woman who claimed a knee injury in a collision. In 2007, Alejandra Mejia was driving a midsize sedan in the right lane of Renwick Drive in Houston. Calvin Obey was driving a full-size car in the left lane. As they were approaching a stoplight, Obey changed lanes to the right, and the vehicles collided. Mejia claimed a grade II meniscus tear in her left knee and sprains and strains of the left shoulder, midback and neck. The defense argued that the impact was too minor to have caused the torn meniscus, and that the tear was a result of chondromalacia, or “runner’s knee.”
