On a recent June morning, 85th District Judge J.D. Langley of Bryan had scheduled hearings for cases involving allegations of aggravated assault, burglary and stalking. But that’s just an average day for Langley, who has been a judge for a quarter-century.

As Langley remembers it, the road he took to the bench was a short one but he definitely logged some miles and experience before putting on the robe. A Greenville native and the first person in his family to graduate from college, Langley served as an infantry officer in the U.S. Marine Corps, participating in a mine-sweeping operation of the Suez Canal in 1975.
