Doctor not liable for patient’s suicide after discharge
On July 5, a jury found that a doctor wasn’t to blame for a patient’s suicide hours after she discharged her. In 2006, Sheila Moresco was seen by Dr. Jhansi Raj. Moresco had a long history of bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. The family claimed that Moresco met the criteria for involuntary commitment at the time Raj discharged her, and she was combative and threatening the night before. Raj argued that Moresco was normal and in good spirits that morning. She did not appear to be a danger to herself or others and did not meet the criteria for involuntary commitment, Raj claimed.
