Patton Boggs has filed a breach of contract suit against former client Upaid Systems Ltd., alleging the British Virgin Islands company owes it more than $3.1 million in unpaid fees and expenses, a 15 percent share of the settlement of a patent infringement suit and interest.

“Upaid has materially and repeatedly breached its obligations under the Engagement Agreement by failing to pay the Patton Boggs invoices for agreed monthly fees, costs and expenses, by failing to pay the contingent fee due upon receipt of the settlement moneys, and by failing to pay interest on the unpaid amounts as agreed,” Patton Boggs alleges in the March 26 complaint filed in the Eastern District of Texas’ Marshall Division.
