Two years ago, Houston plaintiffs lawyer Steve Mostyn led the Texas Trial Lawyers Association (TTLA). Now, Mostyn and other prominent Texas trial lawyers have formed a new advocacy group, the Texas Association of Consumer Lawyers.

Mostyn, who resigned from the TTLA in 2012 because he said he wanted his money to go toward a “cause” and to affect legislation, believes the two groups have similar goals. However, he said, the new organization has a single focus: advocacy for the rights of consumers.
