Lance Armstrong, his cycling team’s company and his business agent filed a motion Dec. 30 to stay proposed arbitration proceedings. At stake is some $12 million in prize money previously awarded to the disgraced athlete before his doping scandal.

Armstrong, Tailwind Sports Inc. and Armstrong’s agent William Stapleton are defendants in SCA Promotions v. Armstrong. Dallas-based SCA Promotions Inc. filed a petition Feb. 7, 2013, in the 116th District Court in Dallas County, seeking the return of the prize money paid to Armstrong and his team. SCA based its claims on Armstrong’s admissions that he used “performance-enhancing drugs.”
