Judge Stephen R. Tittle Jr. of the 196th District Court recused himself voluntarily from a lawsuit filed by Hunt County against building contractors. The move came one day after the county filed a motion seeking his recusal.

In its Jan. 6 motion in Hunt County v. Frank W. Neal & Associates, the county alleged that Tittle showed partiality by commenting to court reporter Kelly Bryant, who worked in Tittle’s courtroom, that the county commissioners “are too stupid to understand they have a big lawsuit pending in my court, and they will pay one way or the other.”
