Take some time to read “The Tao,” the genius work of Lao Tzu. The Tao means “the way.” A Tao mindset consists of broad aphorisms, eschewing narrow and legalistic concepts and rules. Wisdom is self-generated, not imposed. So, with apologies to Lao Tzu, here is the Tao of termination.
1. The wise manager fires before she hires. A wise manager is a discerning manager. She considers the fit between an applicant and the job. She therefore fires an applicant with poor congruence by not hiring him.
